KUALA NERUS: A total of 47 illegal immigrants were nabbed in ten separate raids at rental houses and restaurants in Marang and Dungun on Thursday.
Those nabbed comprised 44 men and three women, aged between 21 and 50 years were believed to be from Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
"They were working illegally as construction workers and cooks in both districts, " said state Immigration Department enforcement chief Mohd Muda.
All 47 detainees were sent to the Ajil detention centre in Hulu Terengganu for further investigation.
Some of those nabbed are being probed under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959 for not possessing valid travel documents, while others are being investigated under Section 15(1), Section 56(1)(1) and Section 39(b) of the same Act for overstaying and violating their work permits.
Mohd said 18 enforcement officers were involved in the eleven-hour Ops Selera and Ops Sapu, which ended at 5am today.
"We raided the first restaurant in Rusila, Marang at 5pm and nabbed four Thais found without documents," he said.
Mohd said two other raids were made at two restaurants in Rhu Renggeh, Marang, where five Myanmars and seven Thais were picked up.
"In Dungun, rental houses in Felda Ketengah Jaya, Felda Kerteh 5, Felda Kerteh 6, Felda Kerteh 1 and Ketengah Jaya were checked, and 30 illegal immigrants were nabbed," he added.
Mohd said a local man was also summoned for harbouring the illegals at a restaurant in Marang.
