5.3 magnitude quake strikes Java, no tsunami threat

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit the Indonesian island of Java at 2.01am, today.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said the location of the quake was 1,011km southwest of Tebedu in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

It said the temblor does not pose a tsunami threat. -- BERNAMA
