Crime drama leads the highlights of tonight's TV, with new Irvine Welsh adaptation Crime starring Dougray Scott launching on BritBox.

Meanwhile, Channel 5's offering is a little less gritty as P.D. James adaptation Dalgliesh continues with Bertie Carvel in the title role.

Author Irvine Welsh branches out into TV adaptations after some huge successes with his books being made into films - notably, Trainspotting and Filth.

Crime stars Dougray Scott as DI Ray Lennox who is struggling to recover from a recent child murder case which is still haunting him.

Fans of the book will be familiar with Lennox reflecting on the case from his holiday in Miami, but the TV series reangles the tale by showing what actually happened during the investigation in Edinburgh.

The latest TV contest from the same stable as Bake Off pits woodworkers against each other in a familiar format of weekly challenges.

In tonight's semi-final, the four remaining contestants turn their hand to period drinks cabinets before host Mel Giedroyc announces who's made it to the final.

This latest one showcases fast fixes in the kitchen to inspire delicious meals at a moment's notice.

Bertie Carvel stars as Dalgliesh. (Channel 5)

Based on P.D. James' novels, the series stars Bertie Carvel as the title detective working on cases in the 70s.

This episode sees Dalgliesh investigate a case of the bodies of a recently-resigned Tory MP and a homeless man found in a Paddington church by a churchwarden and an eight-year-old child.
