5 handy hacks for the Singapore Motorshow 2017

Planning to hit the Singapore Motorshow? Our handy hacks let you get the best from your time there

SINGAPORE — The Singapore Motorshow 2017 opens its doors to the public tomorrow and runs until Sunday, and the car dealers who represent 25 brands between them will be hoping for brisk business.

But with plenty else to see over two floor at the Suntec exhibition centre, here’s a handy list of hacks to get the best experience from the event:

How to score tickets to the Russ Swift show

Stunt performer Russ Swift (above) is back to drive on two wheels, perform high-speed doughnuts, parallel park by handbrake and otherwise do things with cars that we all wish we could. Entry to his show is by wristband only, and the good news is they’re given out for free. The bad news: you’ll have to queue. Get yours at the Stunt Show ticket collection counter, beside the Hall 403 entrance. They start giving them out an hour before each performance. Here are this year’s timings:

How to make a motorshow model like you

This one’s simple: make her laugh (note we didn’t say it was easy). One motor show model we’ve spoken to says the girls are on their feet for up to 10 hours a day, and find the whole thing pretty taxing. If you can crack a joke to alleviate the dreariness, you’ll brighten up a tough day and score major points.

How to get some alone time with the cars
Avoid the weekend if you can’t stand crowds, and if you really want a bit of extra time to fondle your favourite cars, there’s the Thursday preview ticket for $10: it lets you in at 1300 (four hours before the show opens to the general public). Don’t want to spend the extra dosh? Use your regular $6 ticket to pop in on Friday morning. Crowds are usually thin then, too.

How to spot celebrities

If you don’t think that cars will be the only stars worth seeing, you could be right: this year a large roster of personalities from radio and the small screen will be at the show. Many car companies have signed up celebs as spokespersons, and they’ll be at Suntec to earn their free rides. Jamie Yeo (above) will be there tomorrow between 1830 and 2030, but Saturday is the best day for autograph hunters.

How to win a new car

Full rules are here, but essentially buying a ticket entitles you to a chance to win a new Subaru Impreza 1.6i-S. It won’t come with a COE, alas, but odds are the winner won’t complain.
