5 illegal immigrants injured trying to escape immigration

SHAH ALAM: Five illegal immigrants were hurt while trying to escape from a raid conducted by the Immigration Department in Jalan Pasar Baru, Meru, Klang, early today.

Selangor Immigration Enforcement Unit chief, Jaimin Sumpit said the five illegal immigrants were fleeing from a four-storey shophouse used to house foreign workers.

“Many foreigners tried to escape by jumping from the window and climbing up the ceiling and roof of houses.

“The five foreigners hurt were brought to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang for treatment,” he said in a statement.

Jaimin said they detained 73 illegal immigrants comprising 60 men, seven women and six children aged between two and 45 years.

Some 54 foreigners were detained under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having valid work permits while 19 others were detained under Section 15 for overstaying. -- Bernama
