5 innovators awarded EY Singapore Entrepreneur of the Year 2018

Ernst & Young’s annual Entrepreneur of the Year will award five inspiring and innovative Singaporean entrepreneurs for its 17th season

The assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services organization Ernst & Young (EY) announced the recipients of 17th EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) 2018 Singapore awards today. The five recipients, in their respective industries, are:

  1. Engineering and Construction: Von Lee Yong Miang, Chairman, Expand Construction Pte Ltd

  2. Analytics Intelligence: Jeffrey Tiong, CEO, Patsnap

  3. Media and Lifestyle: Cheong Chia Chou, Managing Director, Pictureworks Pte Ltd

  4. Sustainable Bathroom Solutions: Christopher Ng, Group CEO, Rigel Technology (S) Pte Ltd

  5. Outsourced Solutions: Laurent Junique, CEO, Teledirect Pte Ltd

Among the five names, one will be selected as the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2018 Singapore to represent Singapore at the annual EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) award in Monte Carlo next year. The representative will face the representatives of other 50 countries.

The award for the country’s official representative will be given at the EY EOY Awards Gala on the coming October 26, 2018, at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The honourable guest in the event will include Mrs. Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs.

The process of selecting the five names included narrowing it from over 40 nominations judged by an independent panel. The judging criteria are based on six global merits of entrepreneurial spirit, financial performance/value creation, strategic direction, national and global impact, innovation, and personal integrity/purpose-driven leadership.

“The five winners stood out for their boldness to introduce new concepts, explore new technologies and challenge industry norms. They also have a visionary foresight and the ability to identify the burgeoning demand for sustainable and digital solutions way ahead of their peers,” said Chairman of the judging panel, Dr. Robert Yap, who is also the Executive Chairman of YCH Group.

With the main theme of “Embracing transformation, driving innovation,” for this year’s award, five winners are said to be the embodiment of the spirit. “Our winning entrepreneurs, like most other business owners, are confronted with many uncertainties and changes that come with a fast-evolving business landscape, but managed to thrive,” said Max Loh, EY Asean and Singapore Managing Partner, Ernst & Young LLP.

EY Entrepreneur of the Year has been recognised as one of the world’s most prestigious business awards program for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneur of the Year celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognising them through regional, national and global awards programs in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries.
