5 McDonald's Singapore employees have COVID-19, 4 affected restaurants closed
SINGAPORE — Five employees of McDonald’s Singapore have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the fast food chain said in a media release on Sunday (12 April).
The affected employees work at the McDonald’s restaurants at LIDO, Forum Galleria, Parklane and Geylang East Central. They have been quarantined in medical facilities and are being monitored by medical personnel. The gender and age of the employees were not specified.
All other employees who worked in the four restaurants have been informed by the company to isolate themselves with a 14-day Leave of Absence.
In line with the National Environment Agency’s guidelines, the restaurants have been deep-cleaned and closed for business till further notice.
All the affected employees had normal temperature readings when taken at the start of their respective work shifts.
“We are taking the situation seriously and are monitoring this closely, as we give our affected employees every support and assistance to help with their recovery,” says Kenneth Chan, Managing Director, McDonald’s Singapore.
“Our priority now – as it has been since the start of the pandemic – is to keep our restaurants safe for everyone. As we continue to uphold all important safety measures to the highest standards, we also want to encourage our customers to wear a mask when they visit our restaurants for takeaways in line with the latest recommendation, for their own safety and that of our employees. We are determined to stay united with the rest of Singapore to flatten the curve,” he added.
Details of the five cases:
Employee 1: The employee works at McDonald’s LIDO, and last day at work was on 2 April. The employee was also attached to work at the McDonald’s Parklane restaurant for one day on 30 March. The employee visited the doctor on 3 April for a sore throat and fever, and was given a 5-day MC. The employee visited the doctor again on 8 April and was sent for a swab test.
Employee 2: The employee works at McDonald’s LIDO, and last day at work was on 3 April, and had rest days from 4-6 April. The employee visited the doctor on 7 April for joint pains and muscle aches.
Employee 3: The employee works at McDonald’s Parklane, and last day at work was on 8 April. The employee was also attached to work at the McDonald’s LIDO restaurant on 30 March, 1, 2, 3 and 6 April. The employee visited the doctor on 9 April for a fever.
Employee 4: The employee works at McDonald’s Forum Galleria, and last day at work was on 8 April. The employee is a room mate of Employee 3. Although Employee 4 was not unwell, the company requested the employee to go for a swab test on 10 April.
Employee 5: The employee works at McDonald’s Geylang East Central, and last day at work was on 8 April. The employee visited the doctor on 9 April for a fever and was referred to the hospital for a swab test.
