5 Michelin Star restaurants in Singapore you have to check out in 2017

The Michelin Guide Singapore 2017 is out and 38 eateries have been awarded the Bib Gourmand. See the full list here.

The need for this award in Singapore is apparent, to push both hawker stalls as well as moderately priced restaurants to better standards of service and food quality. These establishments have worked hard to earn their place in the industry and is certainly worth the trip to check out.

So here are five new entrants into the list that you should definitely pay a visit to. The lines may be long but they were not awarded the coveted Bib Gourmand for no reason!

1. Ah Er Soup in ABC Brickworks Market

What to eat here: Cantonese-style Herbal Soups

Herbal soups are the ultimate comfort food and you wouldn’t expect this cuisine to be awarded a Bib Gourmand, but that just shows how evolved the Michelin Guide has become. Some of the soups offered here include the Chinese wedding favourite Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, Ten Tonic Ginseng Chicken Soup (great for health purposes) and Gingko Pork Tripe Pepper Soup. There are a total of 8 soups for you to try here. Though previously the queue may not have been very long, you can expect it to quite a popular stall at the ABC Brickworks Market now that it has been given the Bib Gourmand.


2. New Lucky Claypot Rice at Holland Drive Market and Food Centre

What to eat here: Claypot Wu Wei Rice

Claypot rice is certainly a popular dish among the older generation, being something they all grew up with. But this dish is one that is both hearty and delicious and would make a great meal for any time of day. The New Lucky Claypot Rice at Holland Drive Market and Food Centre offers an array of claypot rice options as well as other Chinese dishes such as chicken feet and oyster sauce vegetables.


3. Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant by Chef Teppei Yamashita at Keong Saik Road

What to eat here: Unagi, of course!

Being an unagi specialty restaurant, it is only natural for you to be a fan of eel to pay a visit to the place. But even if you aren’t, you might be a convert after trying Man Man’s Unagi! The eels are so fresh here that they are still alive and swimming around in orange containers in the restaurant. These eels are brought in from the Mikawa Isshiki region, known for its freshwater eel. Dining here is an authentic Japanese experience where you get to witness Chef Nakagawa’s live performance of cleaning and gutting the eel before he grills it over charcoal fire pit.

4. Bar-Roque Grill

What to eat here: 3-Course Lunch for $38

Bar-Roque Grill is the only European establishment on the list this year. The French rotisserie and bar is headed by Chef Stephane Istel. Expect a meal fit for a prince at affordable prices as you will be served a three-course meal for only $38 during lunch or a four-course dinner for $88. If you are feeling adventurous, let the chef surprise you with his 6-course menu during dinner for only $108.

What to eat here: Peranakan food

Peranakan cuisine is one of the tastiest cuisines found in Malaysia and Singapore. It is said that the Peranakan recipes are passed down for generations and that it is executed with such love and care that they always come out super tasty. Be sure to visit this restaurant in a big group so you are able to sample as many Peranakan dishes as possible. It won’t be a proper Peranakan experience if you don’t overeat, anyway!
