5 Reasons to start eating Durian

There is nothing between – you either love or hate this fruit. Filled with character, the reputation of the durian exceeds the boundaries of Singapore by far. The smell certainly exceeds any boundaries. While many visitors rather go to Japan and eat fugu fish, many locals swear by it. No matter what side you are on or who is right, there are a few convincing reasons why durian isn’t that bad after all. Have you never wondered why so many of the old folks eat them?

 

1. It makes you happier

The benefits of eating durian might not be in the odour department, but can be of physical and mental nature. While the king of fruits has a rich nutritional value, it is also proven to lower the symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. Who would have thought? Although many would break out in anxiety when being presented with a durian on the plate, it actually can have the opposite effect.

Migraines, depression, anxiety and the like are often triggered by or a symptoms of anaemia, which develops as a result of a lack of red blood cells. This is where the durian comes in. The fruit doesn’t just produce these, but is also a good source for copper and iron.

How about that? Recent studies concluded that durian is somewhat of an aphrodisiac. The meat of the fruit apparently intensifies one’s libido and stamina as well as reduces the risks of infertility for both men and women. So no more pre-drinks before going out to party, but rather some durians to share.

3. It makes you look younger

Do you know how big the beauty industry is? We are talking multi-billion dollars in Singapore alone. The point is a good example for why we should more often listen to our parents’ and grandparent’s generation. Durian was already used in traditional and herbal medicine in order to battle the tick of time. The fruit offers a vast variety of antioxidants that eliminate the free radicals in your body and reduce therewith the chance of pre-mature aging. That includes wrinkles, age spots, hair loss, arthritis, heath problems and more.

4. It makes you sleep better

If you are among those suffering from sleeping problems or even insomnia, you might find help by eating regularly durians. The fruit has tryptophan, which is an acid and organic chemical included in our diet. It is also dubbed as nature’s sleeping pill. Durian has plenty of it. After consuming it, our body transforms it into serotonin and boosts the feeling of relaxation and happiness. Good night!

5. It makes you smarter

Another little acid hidden in durian is the folic acid. Besides preventing heart diseases and fetal development when being pregnant, the folic acid also aids our brain to function better. Already a small regular portion of durian (over a certain period of time) can have positive effects on the functionality of our brain.
