5 Things you should know about "Smurfs: The Lost Village"

When Smurfette finds a mysterious map that leads to an unknown village, she gathers up her friends; Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty to find the village without knowing that they are being watched by the evil Gargamel.
"Smurfs: The Lost Village" introduces the little blue people with white caps in a new light with some little changes made to the franchise. So before you go off on their latest adventure, here are 5 things you should know about "Smurfs: The Lost Village".
This is not a sequel but a reboot
Initially developed to be a sequel shortly after announcing "The Smurfs 2" in 2012, plans for the third live action and animation hybrid were put back to the drawing board after the disappointing outing of "The Smurfs 2". Sony Pictures Animation eventually decided that it was time to take the franchise back to its roots with a story to trace back the unexplored origins of the Smurfs, to be told in a fully CG-animated venture that sticks closer to the designs of creator Peyo. Changed from its original title of "Get Smurfy", "Smurfs: The Lost Village" would be a reboot of sorts to reintroduce the Smurfs once again, without having any connection to the previous movies.
All new cast of Smurfs and Smurfette
Also changing in this reboot of the Smurfs is the voice cast who plays them. "Smurfs: The Lost Village" will have a new range of voices as the Smurfs and Smurfette, with Joe Manganiello as Hefty, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Jake Johnson as Grouchy, Jack McBrayer as Clumsy and Danny Pudi as Brainy. Katy Perry, who voiced Smurfette in the hybrid, will now be replaced by singer Demi Lovato.
It's about Girl Power!
By having Smurfette as the center of the story, we can finally ask the question if there are any other girl Smurfs out there? And that is what "Smurfs: The Lost Village" is going to find out; adding a delightful surprise for us that is also exemplified by woman icons we can get behind.
Only the most evil need apply
Rainn Wilson will be the voice of the evil Gargamel and this would be his first animation work since 2009's "Monsters vs Aliens". His casting continues a tradition of actors who play as Gargamel, all of which to date has also played a villainous role, so that only the most devious can play as the evil wizard.
The first of Sony Pictures Animation's year
After having its release date pushed from 2015 till now, "Smurfs: The Lost Village" will kick off a slew of feature length animations from Sony Pictures Animation. After "Smurfs: The Lost Village", it would be followed by "The Emoji Movie" in August and "The Star" in November.
