5 tips for better sleep when traveling

Most people have trouble sleeping when traveling. Here are five easy tips to help you maximize your rest during your trip.

Bring a travel pillow
Some people think a travel pillow is only useful when you travel by plane. Once you buy one, however, you will find many opportunities to use it.

Travel pillows come in many shapes and sizes, but they can be bulky and attention-grabbing. However, there is an inflatable type of travel pillow you can buy that can be stored discretely.

Wear compression socks
These special socks will increase blood flow to your feet, which you will be thankful for when sitting for a long period of time.

When flying business class or first class, airlines usually provide these socks for free. But using the wrong size can make the problem worse. So it’s better to bring your own.

Drink more water
Dehydration is another cause of poor sleep. This is often caused by travelers consciously drinking less to avoid having to get up multiple times during long flights.

There is an easy solution. Instead of drinking water, go for sports drinks that replenish electrolytes faster and keep you hydrated with lower volumes of intake. Or, you can buy "hydration packs" to fortify regular water with the same electrolytes.

Buy noise-canceling headphones
Noise-cancelling headphones can now be bought in the ear-bud design. No matter the model, though, these noise-canceling headphones allow you to enjoy any digital content privately while shutting out outside noise.

Listen to white noise
Commonly used as a sleeping aid, "white noise", like the sound of nature, can promote deeper sleep.

For some travelers, visiting places like the beach, mountains or camping in the woods is a boon to good sleep, as those natural sounds are available freely. But if your destination is too noisy, you can easily buy an app on any of your smart devices.
