SINGAPORE — Five men and one woman aged between 20 and 53 were arrested over Friday (30 August) and Saturday in a joint operation by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

An SPF media release on Sunday said that police responded to a case of “assault with weapon” at about 1.25am on Friday in which two men, aged 24 and 26, sustained serious injuries. Both victims were conveyed to hospital.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, the police established the identities and possible locations of the suspects.

The subsequent joint operation led to three men – aged 20, 37 and 53 – being arrested over the two days. The 37-year-old’s arrest along East Coast Road on Friday led to the seizure of “318g of ‘Ice’, 241 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 109g of cannabis, 60 Erimin-5 tablets, 46g of ketamine, drug utensils, a weighing scale and cash amounting to S$5,920”.

Meanwhile, the apprehension of the 53-year-old at a hotel room in the Jalan Sultan area on Saturday saw about 5g of “Ice” and five “Ecstasy” tables recovered. A follow-up search of the suspect’s hideout in the North Bridge Road area also found 166g of “Ice”, 75 Erimin-5 tablets, 25 “Ecstasy” tablets, 25g of ketamine, improvised drug utensils and two weighing scales.

The total value of the drugs seized was over $67,000 said the SPF, noting that the amount of “Ice” recovered was enough to feed the addictions of about 280 abusers for a week.

Another two men and one woman – aged between 20 and 32 – were arrested for suspected drug-related offences during the operation.

The woman along with the 37-year-old and 53-year-old men were charged in court for drug trafficking on Saturday. Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Those convicted of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon face a jail term of up to seven years along with a possible fine, caning, or both.
