Six Malaysians were involved in the MRT train collision at Joo Koon station, said Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Thursday (16 November). The Malaysians who were injured were sent to a “nearby hospital” to receive medical attention, said the ministry.

Ramlan Ibrahim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, posted the statement on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. The High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore also urged Malaysians involved in the incident to contact its office in Singapore if they required consular assistance.

A total of 29 people were injured in the Wednesday morning incident where two MRT trains collided at Joo Koon station due to a software glitch. Of those injured, 25 were taken to the National University Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) for treatment while the other four were walk-in patients at NTFGH.

Most of the injuries were related to knocks, falls and bruises, with one passenger suffering a broken tooth and another having fainted. Train service along the Tuas West Extension was suspended on Thursday to facilitate investigations into the collision.

Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan referred to Wednesday as an “awful day” that also saw three disruptions on the Circle Line, East West Line and North South Line.
