60,000 evacuated in Southern California due to massive wind-driven wildfire
An estimated 60,000 people in the Irvine area have been ordered to evacuate due to the wind-driven Silverado Fire blazing in Southern California, according to the Associated Press.
The smoky fire broke out early Monday morning in Orange County and has continued to grow rapidly due to a Santa Ana wind event. Winds were reported at 50-60 miles per hour in the extremely dry area. The fast winds also prompted power to be cut in an attempt to prevent utility equipment from sparking new blazes.
It is not yet clear how the Orange County fire started. The massive blaze is currently at 2,000 acres with no containment.
