Airdrie RCMP say one man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle early Sunday morning.

The 72-year-old victim was a resident of the community just north of Calgary.

He sustained life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 2, near Edmonton Trail N.E.

RCMP said officers and EMS personel responded to a report of the collision at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Sept. 8.

The man was taken to a Calgary hospital but later died, according to the RCMP news release.

Investigators said the driver of the vehicle and four passengers were not injured.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials say. RCMP are asking for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have camera footage of the incident, to come forward.
