SINGAPORE — Eight people were taken to hospital following a fire at the Platinum@Pioneer industrial building in Tuas on Wednesday (24 February).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that its officers responded to a fire at No. 32E Tuas Ave 11 at about 11.25am. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found one of the building's units to be smoke logged.
SCDF firefighters donned breathing apparatus to enter the unit and locate the fire, which involved an industrial mixer. The fire was put out with two water jets.
Eight people were conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital for burn injuries, said SCDF. It added that about 65 people from neighbouring units evacuated from the building prior to the SCDF officers' arrival.
Videos of the incident posted on social media showed at least six shirtless men in torn clothing and covered in a white substance walking about within the building compound. The men are seen being directed by some other workers to a water hose outside the building, which the men then use to wash themselves down.
The SCDF is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
