82-year-old man charged with murdering 79-year-old woman in Toa Payoh

SINGAPORE — An 82-year-old man was charged with the murder of a 79-year-old woman on Monday (2 September).

Pak Kian Huat, also known as Pek Kiah Huat, stands accused of killing Lim Soi Moy, also known as Lim Kim Luan, at Block 191 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh at about 3.30am on Sunday. According to media reports, the pair were flatmates.

Dressed in a red shirt, Pak received his charge via video link.

The prosecution sought a one-week remand period for Pak, with permission to bring him out for purposes of scene reconstruction. He will be subsequently be remanded for psychiatric evaluation.

Pak will return to court on 9 September.

The police had earlier said that they were alerted to the incident at about 3.40am on Sunday. Lim was found motionless and pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

If convicted of murder, Lim faces the death penalty.
