The nine victims of the rent-sangla scam will no longer file charges against suspects of the modus operandi led by Rafaela Anunciacion who was arrested recently, but was temporarily released on bail.
PNP HPG Task Force Limbas chief Police Senior Inspector Gem Delantes said they are alarmed by the possibility that the rest of the victims will withdraw their complaints and the gravity of the case will be mitigated.
“Dahilan nila kasi nakuha na nila yung sasakyan nila ayaw na nila ng abala (Their reason is that they’ve recovered their vehicles. They do not want any further hassles),” Police Senior Inspector Gem Delantes said.
The Bank Security Managers Association of the Philippines is investigating several employees of banks who might have connived in the rent-sangla scam.
To date, 312 vehicles have been returned to their rightful owners. Several vehicles are yet to be recovered due to documentation problems.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) assures that the vehicles’ parts are complete.
“Bago po natin i-release ito ina-under go po natin ng macro eching examination para magkaron tayo ng record ng mga sasakyan (Before we released the vehicles, they underwent macro etching examination for us to have records of the vehicles),” Police Senior Inspector Gem Delantes said. — Grace Casin | UNTV News & Rescue
