Some 900,000 Singaporean HDB households will receive a GST voucher rebate in July, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday (2 July).

It will be the latest instalment of the GST Voucher – Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebate, one of three components under the permanent GST Voucher scheme.

Eligible Singaporean households will each receive a GST Voucher – U-Save of up to $95 in July and in October this year, depending on the kind of flat they live in.

Distributed every three months, the U-Save rebate offsets part of a household’s utilities bills and helps lower overall household expenses. As announced in Budget 2018, eligible households will receive an additional $20 per year ($5 per quarter) for three years, from 2019 to 2021.

This will help families adjust to the carbon tax and the resultant increase in electricity and gas expenses when it is implemented from 2019.

Annually, the permanent GST Voucher – U-Save rebate has enabled households in 1- and 2-room HDB flats to receive support equivalent to about three to four months of their utilities bills. Those living in 3- and 4-room HDB flats have received support equivalent to about one to two months of their utilities bills.

The U-Save rebate is expected to amount to $280 million over four quarters, starting from July 2018.
