A day after Bohol earthquake, aftershocks galore

A day after the magnitude 7.2 Visayas earthquake, aftershocks continue to rock the Bohol area.

On Wednesday morning,  two magnitude 5.1 aftershocks were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The first occurred at 9:36 a.m. with an epicenter of 34 kilometers northwest of Tagbilaran, Bohol.

As a result of the aftershock, Intensity 4 was felt in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, and Tagbilaran City.

Intensity 3 was felt in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.

Intensity 2 was felt in Mambajao in Camiguin province.

The second occurred around an hour later at 10:42 a.m. with the epicenter at 57 kilometers east of Tagbilaran.

These are strongest of the 823 aftershocks recorded as of this posting.

The aftershocks occurred just as President Aquino touched down in Tagbilaran City to assess the damage of Tuesday's quake. 

A powerful magnitude 7.2 earthquake shook Bohol on Tuesday, killing at least 107people.

The quake, which was felt even in Sorsogon and Davao, also destroyed centuries-old churches in Bohol. Some structures in Cebu were also damaged.
