I don’t drive and I thought I never will, but I was tempted to test my driving skills with the speeding action of outdoor karting.
I tried karting for the first time at KTC Kart City at Mac Arthur Highway fronting SM Tarlac in San Roque, Tarlac. The place opens from 3:00 pm to 1:00 am from Monday to Saturdays and 10:00 am to 1:00am every Sunday. Karting costs Php 120 for five rounds and Php 200 for 10 rounds. For adrenaline junkies, hop onto this powerful off-road vehicle that sits close to the ground... and enjoy a spin!
Before we were allowed to drive the kart, we were asked to sign waivers stating that they won’t be held responsible for any kind of injury or death that may occur during the race. We were given a quick briefing by an instructor on how to use the vehicle. We were then instructed to change our shoes and wear helmets before proceeding to the track. The cemented track is a small road with a long lapse packed with rubber tires on the side for security purposes. When everything was set, we started the fun race.
I thought it’s going to be difficult for a beginner like me, but surprisingly, this open-wheeled vehicle is so easy to handle and control since I will only need to step on to a brake (to slow down) and accelerator (to speed up). There are also instructors on the tracks, ready to assist. The only problem was there were no flags to warn them whenever we encounter a problem, like being stuck on the rubber tires beside the track, so getting help had been a bit delayed. But overall, I enjoyed the adrenaline-fueled motorized action with my friends.
After the race, we went inside their videoke room and tried their meals such as chicken and pork barbecue, squid filled with veggies and crispy pata. They also have this delicious thin-crust pizza sliced into strips and rolled with lettuce into a bit-size. We matched this with a few beers, small talk and a bunch of singing.
