KUANTAN: Residents are unhappy about an abandoned double-storey house in Taman Kubang Buaya, here.

A woman, who wanted to be known only as Lim, said the house had been vacant for several years and was an eyesore. She said people in the area did not know anything about the owner.

“The compound is often overgrown with grass. Some people will clean the compound. People who live nearby often park their vehicles there.

“Our concern is the place might become a breeding ground for rats, snakes and mosquitoes or people might use it for irresponsible activities,” she said.

Lim said she was told that the place was a playground until someone built the house illegally more than 10 years ago, but never occupied it.

She said she hoped that the authorities would track down the owner or tear down the building.ACTIONLINEA Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) spokesman said the council would check the premises and identify the owner.

He said MPK would also look into claims that the site was previously a playground and that the unit was built without permission.

“We will have to check the building and track down the owner. It is illegal if the person built the house on a piece of land which is meant for other purposes,” he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
