PETRA JAYA: The global economic landscape is changing with many nations, including Malaysia, exploring opportunities offered by the digital economy.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg said such situation requires the people including Sarawakians to adopt a different outlook.
Worldwide emergence of the digital economy said Abang Johari, has changed the global economic landscape with an abundance of business opportunities driven by technology.
“In this digital era, the border does not exist and our stage now is the world rather than subjected to one nation previously.
“That is why we must change our outlook and get connected to the world,” said Abang Johari at the handing over of rewards by Yayasan Sarawak to excellent Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination scorers here today.
Abang Johari also reiterated plans by the state government to digitise Sarawak’s economy from the present conventional method.
This included upgrading information and communication technologies (ICT) infrastructures state-wide for wider penetration and greater data connection.
“The state government is ready to invest RM1 billion to not only boost penetration but also improved data connection to two terabytes per second,” he said, adding that many sectors will benefit from greater data connection.
