PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating whether a two-year-old girl, who died after being left at her babysitter, was raped.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said police are awaiting a post-mortem report on the case in order to ascertain the cause of injuries found on the toddler’s private parts.

Reports had earlier indicated that the girl was believed to have been abused.

Police have remanded the child’s mother, her boyfriend, as well as the babysitter.

The babysitter’s husband, who was remanded on the day of the incident on Tuesday, has since been released.

All those remanded are in their 20s.

Zani said the girl’s mother had been sending her child to the babysitter for the last five months.

“We are still investigating on who had abused the victim,” he said.

It was reported that on Tuesday, the girl’s mother received a call from the babysitter, who informed her that the girl appeared unwell and weak.

The mother then rushed over to the babysitter’s residence, located at the Impian Baiduri Apartment in Section 51A, to pick up her child.

The girl was rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. Doctors pronounced her dead at 5.45pm.

Preliminary investigations by the hospital revealed the toddler had bruises all over her body and tears at her private parts.
