Accused of sexual harassment, Chinese association leader to let lawyer handle
A local Chinese association leader, Yeo Kwi Seng, has been accused of sexual harassment by "making explicit sexual remarks" at a female lawyer.
The lawyer, Veronica Wong Pei Huan, said she was repeatedly harassed by a “sex pervert” via WhatsApp written and audio messages, phone calls and even pornographic videos.
Wong made the allegation on her Facebook page on Wednesday and confirmed with Malaysiakini yesterday that she is preparing to lodge a police report.
According to her, Yeo exchanged name cards with her during a funeral ceremony they attended a few months ago.
She said initially Yeo contacted her via phone calls only for legal matters. However, the man started to have a “very unusual contact purpose” with her.
In the screenshots Wong posted on Facebook, the man who is in his 60s, allegedly "repeatedly sent her sex videos and explicitly sexual remarks".
However, Yeo declined to comment further on her accusation against him.
“I will let my lawyer talk to her... I have nothing else to say,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini yesterday.
Wong is the daughter of MCA veteran leader Wong Mook Leong.
When contacted, Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie told Malaysiakini that the party's Legal Advisory and Women's Aid Centre (Lawa) had contacted Wong and was providing her with legal advice.
She said Wong is expected to lodge a police report tomorrow and Lawa was ready to assist her.
Heng stressed that Wanita MCA was deeply concerned about the matter and would not compromise on any sexual harassment cases.
Extortion claim
Yeo resigned from the board of directors of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) following the allegation by Wong.
“KLSCAH has accepted his resignation and will let his lawyer deal with the matter,” the Chinese association said in a statement yesterday.
The KLSCAH Women's Division has condemned the alleged sexual harassment and urged Wong to lodge a police report.
Yeo, meanwhile, claimed that he was extorted by an unknown man who demanded RM10,000 following the sexual harassment claim against him.
He confirmed that he had lodged a police report on this yesterday night at the Cheras police station.
According to his report, he said that he received a call from an unknown man who then demanded 10 thousand ringgit.
“He said if I give him the money, he will delete my photos which have gone viral on Facebook,” Yeo said.
He added he decided to lodge the report as he did not know who the man was.
