Updated with new opening details

SINGAPORE – Actress Jeanette Aw has confirmed the date of her patisserie, Once Upon A Time (website go live later) on her Instagram post to fans.

Due to Phase 2: Heightened Alert measures, Aw opted to open her business online for pre-orders starting on 25 May, 10am.

The actress-baker will be baking on her own without any help, and will offer three types of cakes for sale during the launch.

Pre-orders for the cakes will be accepted via the website and for a flat fee of S$18, customers can opt for delivery or self-pickup from her shop located at Hamilton Road.

Once Upon A Time is located at 01-04, 35 Hamilton Road, Singapore 209204.

Actress Jeanette Aw, whose popular WTF (What The Fudge) Brownies has an approximate 1,000-pax waitlist since her last bake sales in 2020.

According to 8days.sg, the actress is keeping her store location a secret to avoid interference with the renovations. The patisserie will be offering a “revolving menu of desserts, cakes, and pastries”, depending on what inspires Aw at the moment.

“I won’t be able to tell you right now what I will be offering; it’s more about what inspires me then. I’d like to keep it exciting for the customers as well as myself,” Aw shares.

After completing her patisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu Tokyo in December 2019, Aw started receiving baked goods requests from friends, fans and followers.

Initially, the actress started baking only for private orders and during her free time. She then decided to hold public bake sales after more and more people started enquiring about her baked goods.

The well-received WTF Brownies were sold at S$58 for a box of 16 brownies, and Aw is still fulfilling the orders since last September. “I’m not sure when I will bring it (WTF Brownies) back, but it’s about time I moved on to new recipes,” she says.

Aw also let on that instead of being just a boss in name, she will be in store baking the pastries herself while building up her team of bakers. Aw's patisserie will focus on takeaways, deliveries, and online orders rather than a cafe where people can sit down and chat over baked goods.

When asked why she is not going to keep it as a home baking business, the 41-year-old shared that a “home is a place for rest, it shouldn’t be filled with baking ingredients and boxes. I even had to order new racks and shelving to store everything properly, and I do not like that in my home.”

With her own patisserie, Aw can look forward to exploring new recipes in a proper kitchen, “and I would have the space to create. I think that is essential.”
