Adidas debuts 3D printed shoe, 'Futurecraft 3D'

Adidas' Futurecraft 3D running shoe

The Futurecraft 3D boasts a 3D-printed running shoe midsole that hints at the possibility of store-bought custom sneakers.

Each 3D-printed sole could be tailored to the individual contours of a shopper's feet, suggests Adidas, for a unique in-store fitting experience.

The Futurecraft 3D as it currently stands should be received as "a statement of intent," suggests Adidas AG's executive board member Eric Liedtke in a prepared statement.

It's the first in the company's Futurecraft series, a line that creative director Paul Gaudio sees as a "sandbox," a means of "prototyping with the limitless potential of manufacturing technologies."

No price or date are provided for the Futurecraft 3D but Adidas seems intent on bringing this kind of innovation to market, if not just to its marketing.
