A 48-year-old Aetos Auxiliary Police officer was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head at Woodlands Checkpoint on Thursday morning (10 January)

In response to media queries, the police confirmed that a call for assistance at Woodlands Checkpoint was received at 6.38am.

The officer was found alone at a staff rest area with his service revolver lying beside him. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at 7.09am.

No foul play is suspected. Police investigations are ongoing.

Firearms-related incidents are rare in Singapore.

Last September, a 23-year-old full-time police national serviceman died six days after he was found with a gunshot wound to his head while on duty.

In January 2013, a 20-year-old Certis Cisco auxilliary police officer shot herself to death with her service revolver at the Supreme Court.
