MANILA — An alleged Abu Sayyaf member identified only by his alias, “Bin Laden” was killed by authorities in an encounter early Tuesday morning in Davao City.
The police said concerned citizens reported seeing suspicious-looking men riding a motorcycle in Barangay Bangka, Monday night.
Confiscated from the slain rebel is a gun, a detonating cord, a blasting cap and a 60 mm mortar round that is similar to what was used in the improvised explosive device that went off last year at the night market in Davao City.
“There is an information na nareceive tayo na mayroong presence ng Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) napapasok ng Davao City identified as Saqdat, Omar and Bin Laden as a consequence of our intensified Intel monitoring and information gathering,” Davao City Police spokesperson PSInsp. Ma. Teresita Gaspan said.

“The threats are there but lahat naman ito ay pinaghahandaan ng ating kapulisan at kasundaluhan. The intelligence community is also continuously monitoring,” Public Safety and Security Command Center head Benito de Leon said.

Bin Laden was in the police’s rogue gallery of suspected ASG members.
Meanwhile, pursuit operations are underway for the two other cohorts of Bin laden.
“We have already notified sa lahat ng police station including sa neighboring provinces natin kung pwede na ma-alerto ang identity nung nag drive ng XRM na motorsiklo,” Davao City Police spokesperson PSInsp. Ma. Theresita Gaspan said.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating if the entry of the ASG members in Davao City is related to the arrest of Supt. Ma. Cristina Nobleza and her lover Renierlo Kudri Dongon who are members of the Abu Sayyaf. — Victor Cosare | UNTV News & Rescue
