The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has called out to the New People’s Army to cooperate with the government coinciding with the communist party’s 48th founding anniversary.
“Ibaba nila ang kanilang armas at makilahok sa ating pamahalaan at saka sa ating buong bayan upang isulong natin ang pag-unlad ng ating bansa (Lay down their arms and cooperate with the government and the rest of the country for our nation’s success),” said AFP Spokesperson BGen. Restituto Padilla.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines says the New People’s Army can use this opportunity to show its sincerity to cooperate with the government.
Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison said it is ready to negotiate with the government.
However, they will not hesitate to fight if they will be failed by opportunists.
“Handa tayong makipagkasundo sa kabilang panig tungkol sa mga batayang reporma sa lipunan, ekonomiya at pulitika para magkaroon ng batayan ang makatarungan at matibay na kapayapaan. Handa rin nating ipagpatuloy ang digmang bayan kung bibiguin tayo ng mga mang-aapi at mapagsamantala (We are ready to cooperate with the other party regarding the societal, economic, and political reforms in order to have a basis for a just and lasting peace. We are also ready to continue the fight if we will be failed by oppressors and opportunists),”said Sison.
AFP Spokesperson Padilla says it is important that rebels prove that their aim is for the good of the Filipinos.
“Kung tunay nga silang nagmamahal sa bayan, importante na maliwanag na ang kanilang adhikain ay ang kapakanan ng bawat mamamayan; subalit hindi naman po yan ang nakikita natin (If they really love the country, it is important that it is clear that their aim is for the good of their fellowmen; but this is not what we are seeing) ,” BGen. Padilla said.
AFP also assures that they remain on alert for possible attacks from the group.
The peace talks between the government and the rebel groups are set to resume in April.
But prior to this, the CPP-NPA-NDFP has said it will declare ceasefire before March ends.
