Agong is 'personification of the nation', a reflection of Malaysia's ideology

KUALA LUMPUR: Installation ceremonies to appoint the country’s Yang di-Pertuan Agong symbolise the royal institution of the country.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in his congratulatory address at the installation of Sultan Muhammad V as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, said Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy system is unique as it is not practiced by other countries.

“The installation ceremony shows how strong the institution is, practiced since six decades ago in installing the Custodian of the religion of Islam, defender of the Malays and rights of all citizens.”

Najib added that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the ‘personification of the nation’ and a reflection of the country’s ideology.

“The people are happy to have a young and energetic ruler, a King full of zest,” he said at the Balairung Seri in Istana Negara today.
