KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V said the government had taken the right steps to tackle the economic slowdown.

In his royal address during his installation as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, Sultan Muhammad V stated that the measures taken by the government had managed to stem the external pressure and depreciation of the Ringgit.

He said the people had shown their full support for the strategies adopted by the government to revive the economy and that their support is crucial towards going even further.

The King also noted that the country’s development efforts has to be supported by high quality human capital, and only then can productivity and competitiveness be increased.

Malaysia, he remarked, also must explore and utilise all the benefits and resources it has.

“The quality of human capital is a key determinant of the success of Malaysia in the future; each Malaysian must play their role and responsibility and cannot be careless in what they do.

“Let us maintain the dignity and honour of our beloved country, and realise that whatever the government is doing today will be inherited to the younger generation as the successor to this cause,” he said.

“I am grateful to the government, the prime minister and Cabinet members for the continued support given to me to carry out this responsibility.”
