Agreements on transpo and infra projects of Duterte admin, to be signed during 2017 ASEAN meeting

MANILA — The Duterte administration presented on Thursday its massive transportation and infrastructure projects for the country.

Among them are the constructions of road networks going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport; and of national highways that would link the northern and southern parts of Luzon from La Union to Bicol.

There are also projects for the repair of roads and bridges in several provinces in Visayas and Mindanao.

Department of Public Works and Highways secretary Mark Villar said the ASEAN Summit provides the Philippines an opportunity to seek help from other countries in the fast implementation of its projects.

“Some of our bridge programs will require technologies from other Asian countries such as China, Japan and Korea,” he said.

The Duterte administration also targets to complete several transportation projects within the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.

These include the construction and repair of airports in Puerto Pricesa, Panglao, Bohol, Cebu, and Bicol; and the upgrading of the country’s surveillance and air traffic management to prevent delays in travel and congestion at airports.

There are also projects for the repair of railway system like the train going to Bicol which is expected to be completed in 2021; and the construction of the P3-billion common station in Quezon City.

The government also presented the P227 billion Mega Manila Subway from Quezon City to Taguig City.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade said the agreements for the start of the implementation of the said projects might be signed during the ASEAN meeting.
“The final contract that will trigger the start of this project will be signed this November, when the leaders of ASEAN will come and hopefully it will be Minister Abe and our own President Duterte will ink and signed the formal agreement,” said Tugade.

The said transportation projects are expected to help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

The transportation secretary meanwhile assures that there will be no corruption in the implementation of the said projects under the current administration. — Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
