MANILA, Philippines — Experts and officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) are set to sail to Benham Rise this month.
Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said they will begin sailing on Wednesday on board the sea vessels of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
The DA will determine if floating structures for fish storage can be installed in the Benham Rise.
The Benham Rise is 13-million-hectares wide, and has been declared by the United Nations as part of the Philippines’ continental shelf in 2012.
It has colorful corals, first witnessed last year during the exploration conducted by the government in the area. — UNTV News & Rescue
