KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali is not taking a break but will continue to work from home while he recuperates from a recent spinal injury, his aide clarified today.

“He is not on leave. Working from home,” Selangor strategic communications director Yin Shao Loong told Malay Mail when contacted to verify an earlier report by The Star Online indicating Azmin will be taking indefinite leave from work after hurting his back.

However, Yin did not say how long Azmin would be home-based, only stating that he did not expect it would be long.

Azmin was diagnosed with an annular tear to his spinal disc from lifting heavy furniture early last week and is currently undergoing physiotherapy.

In a separate media statement, Yin said that Azmin had hurt his back after being over excited with the arrival of his first grandchild “that he cleaned and cleared his house by himself, which included lifting very heavy furniture”.

“Such are the joys and tribulations of being a datuk,” Yin added in the statement.

Azmin’s granddaughter was born on February 14, the offspring of his eldest daughter Farah Shazliyana and son-in-law Muhammad Syaqib Zainudin.
