Airlines offer discounts as interstate travel resumes
Local airlines began offering attractive discounts to attract buyers as interstate travel resumes today.
Malaysia Airlines is offering airfares as low as RM59 all-in-one way and up to 50 percent discount for its MHholiday packages, while AirAsia is offering travellers one-way tickets priced as low as RM12.
Malaysia Airlines group chief executive officer Izaham Ismail said lifting the interstate travel ban will give a fantastic boost to businesses.
“We have seen healthy forward booking, reflecting customer’s confidence and strong demand for travel with Malaysia Airlines.
“We are happy to report that Malaysia Airlines recorded a 500 percent increase in our flight booking domestically, the highest booking following the reopening of Langkawi,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Meanwhile, AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat also struck a similar tone welcoming the lift of the interstate travel ban.
“The government deserves the greatest credit for the successful rollout of the national vaccination programme which has now culminated in the safe resumption of domestic travel.
“AirAsia will continue to work closely with all relevant regulators, the federal and state governments, civil aviation and health authorities to ensure the highest standards of compliance and conformance are in place for every single flight we operate,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaacob announced interstate travel will be allowed starting today for those who have been fully vaccinated.
He added the government has also agreed to allow Malaysians to travel abroad without going through the Immigration Department’s MyTravelPass process, but a 14-day mandatory quarantine will remain in place when they return home.
