Alabama WR Jameson Williams reportedly diagnosed with torn ACL suffered in national championship game

Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams was diagnosed with a torn ACL on Tuesday after suffering the injury in Monday's national championship loss to Georgia, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. He'll have surgery with in the next 10 days, per the report.

Williams was helped from the field in the second quarter after suffering a left knee injury while cutting upfield.

Williams' knee gave way as he sprinted forward after catching a long pass from Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young. Williams immediately crumpled to the ground in pain and was unable to put any weight on his left leg as he left the field with the assistance of athletic trainers.

Williams was immediately taken to Alabama's sideline medical tent and then walked to the locker room after he was examined. He was ruled out of the game shortly after halftime as Alabama gave up 27 points in the final two quarters and lost 33-18 to the Bulldogs.

Williams has been one of the best wide receivers in college football in 2021. The Ohio State transfer entered the game with 75 catches for 1,507 yards and 15 touchdowns and was averaging over 20 yards per catch.

His injury comes just five weeks after Alabama wide receiver John Metchie III suffered a season-ending knee injury against Georgia in the SEC title game. Metchie led Alabama in receptions and was the team's second-leading receiver in yards. Metchie and Williams combined for 171 catches in Alabama’s first 14 games of the season. No other Alabama player had more than 35 catches in that span this season.

A junior in 2021, Williams is eligible to enter the 2022 NFL draft.
