Alan Carr plans on taking some time off after his divorce

Alan Carr has said that he plans on taking some time off once his divorce from husband Paul Drayton has been finalised.

The comic, who is currently touring his Regional Trinket show, announced earlier this year that he and Drayton would be divorcing after three years of marriage and longer than a decade as a couple.

Speaking to What's On Scotland, Carr talked about how his life has changed over the last couple of years: "I wrote it before Covid. We had a week to go and it was all written and done. It was about me getting married and Adele getting ordained especially to marry me and Paul. But then, during Covid, the relationship fell apart, and I was divorced when we came out the other end."

Carr then said how he wished to take some time away once the tour has finished to find "balance" in his life: I’ve got to sort out that work/life balance. "Next year, you’ll probably see a bit less of Alan. I’m going to sort myself out. I think I’m ready for it and, who knows, I might find love."

He added how his tour material has been based on his personal issues: "So it’s probably my most personal [tour], but it sort of works and it’s quite raw and I go to places I don’t normally talk about. It’s like therapy really."

Carr also said that while his professional life has been "amazing", his divorce meant things were "rubbish" personally.

Announcing their divorce in January, the couple released a joint statement saying: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating. They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways."

Drayton was jailed for 14 weeks in January after drunkenly reversing into a police car with an alcohol test reading 'off the scale'. He was also banned for driving for three years.

The court heard how worried members of the public had called police on 9 October last year, when they saw Drayton driving in Broadbridge Heath, West Sussex shortly before 3pm.
