Alcohol back on sale in Kyiv after month-long ban

STORY: Shoppers were seen in supermarkets in Kyiv stocking up on their favorite beverages.

In the days following the Russian invasion of Ukraine - which it calls a "special operation" - the sale of alcohol was banned by local authorities nationwide.

However, in Kyiv, mayor Vitali Klitschko has relaxed the prohibition of alcohol sales in shops, with beverages allowed to be purchased between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. local time (0800 GMT- 1300 GMT).

Olena, a psychologist who purchased alcohol in a Kyiv supermarket, said it does not mean that people have forgotten what is happening across Ukraine.

"We are just supporting our country in this way. No one will be better off if we are depressed, doing nothing," she said.
