Ali Hamsa tight-lipped on retirement, possible contract extension

PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa is keeping mum on his upcoming retirement.

When met after an official function at the Prime Minister's Office here, Ali said that he is not ready to make any comment on the expiration of his contract on Aug 29.

He added that he is not sure if his service will be extended.

"I don't know yet. No comments now... I have a Cabinet meeting to attend," he said.

Ali was attending the Perdana Fellowship Presentation programme at the Perdana Putra Building here, where Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also present.

It was reported that a source in the Prime Minister's Office said that Ali's contract will come to an end on Aug 29.

It is learnt that his contract was expected to be extended under the previous prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's government.

Sixty-three-year-old Ali had served in the post for the last six years. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
