Prior to its launch in Indonesia, Alibaba Cloud has already operated data centres in 17 regions worldwide

Alibaba Group’s cloud computing arm Alibaba Cloud today announced the commencement of operations for its first data centre in Indonesia.

The data centre will offer products and services ranging from elastic computing, database service, networking, security and middleware to analytics and big data to fulfill the needs of companies in various industries including e-commerce, media, Fintech, gaming, logistics, transportation and manufacturing.

Alibaba Cloud also announced that it will introduce its Alibaba Cloud Certified Professional (ACP) program to Indonesia. The programme aims to train 300 and certify 100 cloud-savvy professionals in the country within a year.

The company also launched its big data platform MaxCompute in the market.

“By providing a full range of cutting edge cloud solutions and combining this with our expertise, we can assist Indonesian SMEs, government, and enterprises to integrate advanced cloud technology into their daily operations to drive innovation and thrive in the digital age,” said Raymond Ma, Head of Alibaba Cloud ASEAN & ANZ, in a press statement.

During its launch, the company already has online marketplace Tokopedia, e-commerce enabler GTech Digital Asia, social networking app Yogrt, and hospitality giant Dwidaya Tour on board as users.

However, Alibaba Cloud did not share the number of clients it is targetting for the first year of its operation in Indonesia.

Prior to its launch in Indonesia, Alibaba Cloud already has data centers in 17 regions worldwide.
