All SMRT public transport premises certified with SG Clean quality mark

SINGAPORE — All SMRT premises in the public transport network have received the SG Clean quality mark, meeting the official assessment standards in sanitation and hygiene.

In a media release on Friday (12 June), SMRT said that it has worked with the Land Transport Authority to receive the SG Clean quality mark from the National Environment Agency for all 59 stations on the North-South and East-West Lines; 30 Circle Line stations; three Thomson-East Coast Line stations; 13 Bukit Panjang LRT stations and five SMRT bus interchanges.

“In the ongoing fight against the spread of COVID-19, SMRT will continue its stepped-up cleaning regime, which has been in effect since February,” SMRT said in its media release.

“This includes intensified cleaning and disinfection of our premises and facilities to reduce transmission, and to safeguard the health and well-being of our commuters and staff. Areas with high commuter touchpoints will continue to be cleaned every two hours.”

Additional hand sanitisers at MRT stations, bus interchanges

With an expected increase in commuter footfall as Singapore gradually reopens its economy, more hand sanitiser dispensers have been made available at MRT stations and bus interchanges.

SMRT said that an additional 10 to 30 hand sanitisers will be progressively installed in each MRT station at the entrances, lifts, platforms and concourse areas.

At all bus interchanges, additional hand sanitiser dispensers will be made available at each boarding and alighting berth, as well as interchange access points.

In addition, SMRT has started using antimicrobial disinfectant coatings within its trains and buses.

“As Singapore gradually resumes work and life in the post-circuit breaker period, SMRT is fully committed to work with the authorities, industry players and our commuters to keep our entire public transport network clean and safe for everyone,” said SMRT Corporation group chief executive officer Neo Kian Hong.

Commuters are reminded to wear a mask in public, practise good personal hygiene, as well as refrain from talking while taking public transport.
