Alleged US pedophile captured in Cebu

A United States national, who is wanted for sexually molesting a child in California, was arrested in Cebu last week, the Bureau of Immigration announced over the weekend.

BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said his agency's fugitive search operatives arrested Scott David Shrum, 46, last Oct. 17 at the Maderazo Farm in Barangay Mohon, Talisay City.

BI acting intelligence chief Atty. Ma. Antonette Mangrobang said that Shrum's son’s fiancée aided BI agents in determining the fugitive’s whereabouts

According to the BI’s travel database, Shrum arrived in Manila on Dec. 29 last year and never applied for an extension of his stay as a tourist.

As the US government having revoked his passport last April 20, Shrum is thus considered both an overstaying and an undocumented alien, said the BI.

Shrum will immediately be sent back to the US as the BI board of Commissioners had already issued the order for his summary deportation, David said.

Shrum is wanted in two courts in California. A superior court in Sacramento issued a warrant for his arrest due to charges that he engaged in “three or more acts of sexual conduct with a child.”

Also, a district court in eastern California issued a warrant for his arrest for continuously moving from one US state to another to elude arrest. — DVM, GMA News
