Almost halfway his term, Aquino still getting high ratings

Almost halfway through his six-year term, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III continues to be high in the favor of Filipinos, a new Pulse Asia survey showed.

The President still enjoys a "big majority approval and trust ratings in November 2012..." Pulse Asia said in its latest Ulat ng Bayan Survey.

Almost eight out of 10 Pinoys (78 percent) express appreciation for Aquino's work in the past quarter.

"[N]o significant changes in overall presidential ratings are recorded between September and November 2012," Pulse Asia said.

The President also received an approval rating of 78 percent in September, recovering from a low of 67 percent in May and almost hitting its 79-percent peak reached in October 2011.

Only 6 percent of respondents, meanwhile, gave negative opinions in their assessment of Aquino's performance.

Unsure about their sentiments toward the President are 16 percent of respondents.

The latest poll is based on interviews with 1,200 Pinoy adults from Nov. 23 to 29.

Results of the survey also showed that majority of Filipinos approve of the national government's performance during the same period.

Receiving "small to sizeable majority approval ratings," the report said, are the administrations efforts in  fighting criminality, curbing corruption, enforcing the rule of law, promoting peace, protecting the environment, increasing the pay of workers and creating more jobs.

The same level of approval rating was also given to the administration's work in "defending the country's territorial integrity."

This comes amid recent escalations in the West Philippine Sea dispute particularly with China.

On the other hand, Filipinos are most critical of the administration's initiatives in reducing poverty and controlling the rise in prices of goods.
