For keen shoppers and bargain hunters, Amazon Prime Day is nearly here, with more than a million deals to shop across big-name brands on everything from game consoles to coffee machines.

This year the sale will run from 13 and 14 October, having been postponed from its usual July dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As it’s been a fraught six months, the online retailer is putting a special focus this year on helping small businesses.

Prime members who spend £10 with select small businesses from 28 September to 12 October, will earn £10 to spend on Prime Day.

As it’s not long until the sale kicks off, now is the best time to plan your Christmas shopping and make the most of the bargains, to avoid a last minute dash to the shops in the week before 25 December.

This is especially important for any kids’ toys you plan to snap up, as products from popular brands such as Lego and Fisher Price often sell out. Last year, more than one million toys were sold during Amazon’s Prime Day event.

As usual for its big annual sale, Amazon will have deals, discounts and bargains galore to enjoy over the two days. Below, we’ve done all the hard work for you, covering everything you need to know about how to make the most of Prime Day 2020.

Our IndyBest team hand-picks every deal we feature. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

How can I take part?

Gaining access to the Prime Day deals is not a case of just browsing through the site, as only those with an Amazon Prime membership will qualify.

Don’t worry if you haven’t got one yet, you can sign up for a 30-day trial anytime before the sale starts, and following that, monthly membership costs £7.99 or you can pay £79 annually.

Once that’s done and dusted, you can enjoy perks including same-day delivery slots, over 800,000 free e-books and the use of Prime Video and Amazon Music services.

How can you get the best deals?

Save yourself from trawling through hundreds of pages of products, and instead check back here, where the IndyBest team will be rounding up the best bargains to bag throughout the sale.

Make sure you download the Amazon app, which will give you a heads up on the lightning deals, which are available only for a few hours, and you can set alerts to be notified when a particular deal has gone live on-site.

What were the best kids’ toys deals last year?

Prime Day is one of the best days to score savings on Lego, and last year the Lego Movie 2 Queen Whatevra box had a huge discount, being reduced from £34.99 to £16.99.

Elsewhere this dress up game L.O.L Surprise! Pearl doll and little sister went from £29.99 to £19.99.

This Hatchimals Collegtibles 4 pack was also on offer, coming down from £9.99 to £6.49 for a toy that will provide hours of fun for little ones.

New parents could also bag a bargain with items such as this Nuby inflatable floor seat with interactive toys, which was £21.59, but was reduced to £15.11.

Star Wars fans enjoyed a 51 per cent discount on this Lego Star Wars Solo: A Star Wars Story Kessel Run Millennium Falcon set.

What deals can you expect this year?

Big brands such as Fisher-Price, Lego, Thomas The Tank Engine, Paw Patrol, Marvel and Disney are likely to be included in this year's sales, as they have in previous Prime Day’s.

Larger toys such as this Thomas & Friends BCT65 will be a winner for larger floor spaces and children who love the fictional character.

For older kids, this Monopoly Game Of Thrones will provide fun without being stuck to a screen or tablet and will definitely come in handy when kids are off on their Christmas holiday.

For young ones who love marbles, this GraviTrax - starter set is the perfect marble run for beginners who are eight years and older.
