FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — American Airlines said Thursday it has expanded ties with Cathay Pacific to include additional flights on the Hong Kong airline's Asian network.
The code-sharing deal will include Cathay Pacific's new daily flights between Chicago and Hong Kong and its current daily service between Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The two airlines have had a code-sharing deal since 2003 on several trans-Pacific routes and some flights within the U.S. and Asia.
Under code-sharing agreements, one airline can attach its name, or code, to a flight operated by the other and sell seats on that flight. It's a way for airlines to expand their route maps without adding planes and crews.
