'All in good fun': American reacts to viral memes after posting that Marina Bay Sands is in Chattanooga
SINGAPORE — A man from the U.S. who inexplicably posted a photo of Singapore's Marina Bay Sands but identified it as "downtown Chattanooga" in Tennessee has spawned a viral phenomenon as thousands of Singaporean netizens responded with memes spoofing his apparent mistake.
On Monday (14 June), an American Facebook user called Aye Shaun posted a night-time photo of Marina Bay Sands, captioning it: "Downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee 😮😮 It's Beautiful 🤯"
As of Friday, four days after Shaun's original post, it has attracted more than 13,000 reactions, 16,000 comments and 14,000 shares.
Based on Shaun's Facebook profile, he seems to be a young Caucasian male living in the city of Chattanooga in the state of Tennessee.
It's unclear why Shaun misidentified the Singaporean casino and shopping resort as being located in Chattanooga, but netizens are having lots of fun returning the favour by posting pictures of Singaporean places and things and jokingly mislabeling them as their American counterparts.
These memes have included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong being called "Barack Obama", and the Golden Gate Bridge being identified as "Benjamin Sheares Bridge".

Shaun himself is apparently already aware of the reactions his post has received in Singapore. Some netizens messaged him on his Facebook page to tell him about the memes.
One tried to explain that Singaporeans were just having fun and thanked him for providing them with entertainment. He responded by saying, "No worries it's all in good fun".
Another netizen shared with him an article about the memes, to which he responded, "Oh damn that's awesome".
Earlier today, Shaun shared the Mothership article about the news on his Facebook page. Some Singaporeans have already begun posting spoofs under that post as well.
We're guessing this is all a lot of good fun and entertainment for Singaporeans as we remain staying at home during the pandemic.
