His son, fellow actor Abhishek, also tweeted, "My father, thankfully, has tested negative on his latest Covid-19 test and has been discharged from the hospital. He will now be at home and rest. Thank you all for all your prayers and wishes for him."

Both father and son were hospitalised last 11 July after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Abhishek's wife, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and their daughter Aaradhya were also admitted into the hospital a few days after the father and son duo. But both mother and daughter later tested negative and were allowed to return home on 27 July.

Abhishek is the only member of the Bachchan family who remains in the hospital.
