ANA’s Star Wars-themed BB-8 plane takes flight

All Nippon Airway's Star Wars-themed BB-8 plane.

The second of All Nippon Airways’ Star Wars-themed planes has made its maiden voyage.

The Boeing 777-300ER, with a paint scheme inspired by the new droid BB-8, started its domestic flight duties in Japan on Sunday (22 November).

ANA’s flight NH14 made the journey from Itami Airport in Osaka towards Haneda Airport in Tokyo, with original paper cup and headrest cover designs featuring BB-8, the spherical robot due to make its appearance in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Like its sibling, the R2-D2-inspired Boeing 787 which was recently in Singapore, the BB-8 jet will traverse other domestic routes before being eventually enlisted for international flights.

ANA has said it does not have an exact date or route, but international flights between Japan and North America are scheduled for March 2016.

Meanwhile, BB-8 fans will be able to catch the newest addition to the droid family when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in Singapore on 17 December.
