Andi Eigenmann wins Best Actress at 2016 FAMAS

The actress won for her portrayal of a rape victim-turned-vindictive woman in "Angela Markado"

6 Dec - Actress Andi Eigenmann was ecstatic to be named Best Actress at the recently held 2016 Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS).

The actress, who won the award for her role as the vengeful woman in the remake of Lino Brocka's 1983 film "Angela Markado", recently shared her happiness online, thanking director Carlo J. Caparas and others for the opportunity to star in the movie.

"This award is for my beloved mother [Jaclyn Jose] and all women, especially those who experienced any type of abuse. We should not allow others to underestimate our standing and character," she said.

Eigenmann also dedicated the win to her daughter Ellie, saying, "This is a simple gift, but please keep them in your heart. Because the greatest success for me is to see you grow with love, respect, and concern for all."

This is the first FAMAS Best Actress award for Eigenmann, who was nominated in the same category back in 2013.

Eigenmann already had a stronger chance to win the award when the list of nominees was announced earlier this month.

She was nominated twice in the same category for her roles in the film and "Tragic Theatre". The only other nominee with dual nomination was Bea Alonzo, who was nominated for "A Love Affair" and "A Second Chance".
